Pitchcombe Church Celebration Weekend
To mark the completion of the new roof and stonework repairs to the church building and the end of the series of National Lottery-funded community and heritage activities, an End of Project Celebration is taking place at the church over the weekend of Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September.
Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, this will not be the grand village celebration we had envisaged, however, we very much hope that you will be come to the official launch of the new 2020 edition of our Book, Pitchcombe – Our Village, to collect your house-personalised copy and also attend a special outdoor thanksgiving service, conducted by the Archdeacon of Gloucester and Canon Michael Irving.
Book Launch – Saturday 5 September, between 3:00pm and 4:30pm
On the afternoon of Saturday 5 September, please come along to the church to collect your household’s personally-inscribed copy of our new hardback, full colour book, Pitchcombe – Our Village, funded exclusively by The National Lottery Heritage Fund. One copy is being gifted to each house in the village on the strict proviso that it remains in property and is passed on to future occupants, thereby recording and retaining heritage for future generations.
Please arrive at the West Door (closest to the road) any time between 3:00pm and 4:30pm. We will be operating a 2-metre socially-distanced queueing system and will limit the number of people inside the church at any one time, so please remember your umbrella if it’s raining!
Inside, the work by our local talented artists, completed during last summer’s Church Art Challenge Weekend, will be on display.
Halfway up the aisle you will be given your copy of the Book and will then continue along the one-way system, exiting through the South Door where you will also be asked to sign to acknowledge receipt of your copy. Pens will be available, but please bring your own pen if you would prefer. Sanitiser / wipes / masks will be on hand for those who wish to use them.
If you have pre-ordered extra paid-for copies of the Book, then these will be distributed separately by Nick Darien-Jones, who will be positioned by the vestry door, on the east side of the church.
If you’re not able to collect your Book(s) on the day then please don’t worry; they will be hand-delivered to your home by members of the Project Team over the course of the following two weeks.
Church Roof Outdoor Thanksgiving Service – Sunday 6 September, 11:00am
On Sunday 6 September, a joyous Service of Thanksgiving will be held in the churchyard at 11:00am, led by The Venerable Hilary Dawson, Archdeacon of Gloucester, and Canon Michael Irving.
Whilst Government restrictions mean we cannot sing, there will be music, readings and poetry chosen specially to mark the end of both the building works and the heritage-connected activities in which so many villagers have been involved.
Come and join us as our new church roof is blessed and the whole community congratulates itself on the success of a major project which has taken five years to complete!
Once more, social distancing measures will be in place. Only a limited number of chairs will available outside, so please bring rugs to sit on if you are able. We hope the sun will shine on us on the day, but if the weather takes a turn for the worse, then the service will be conducted inside, with seating arranged to ensure everyone is properly spaced out. Again, sanitiser / wipes / masks will be available for all.
We look forward to welcoming you back to Pitchcombe Church for our very special weekend of celebrations.
